Importance of Leadership Skills in the Technological Era - Troy Taylor
Technology is growing at a rapid rate like it never has before. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and other advanced technologies are changing the way in which employees function in the workplace. The future of corporations and the workforce is dependent on the way in which technology evolves. How we do things, why we do things, and when we do things — will all continue to be guided by the latest technological trends. Keeping this in mind, leaders today need to adapt their leadership styles in order to maintain flexibility and keep up with cutting-edge technologies.
I recently read an article published by Analytical Insights, Importance of Leadership Skills in the Technological Era. The article highlights the importance of specific leadership styles and skills that are required for organizations to maintain a competitive advantage, and effectively take advantage of ongoing innovations.
The article lists three important factors to keep in mind.
The first is ridding organizations of the hierarchical model. This model not only hinders the capability of keeping up with the digital era but also disallows creative, out-of-the-box thinking amongst employees. The second is maintaining small teams so that they are easy to train and divide projects amongst. And lastly, ensuring that company resources are geared towards innovation, experimentation, and in tune with a growth mindset.
The article ends with an interesting call-to-action to leaders of the future:
“The leaders of the future need to be able to provide a clear direction and strategy to staff. They should be capable enough to influence and guide people. Leaders outgrow when they have followers rather than the transitional model where leaders are promoted regardless of the following. It is wise to be mindful of the strategies and technologies being adopted by the leader for the future of the organization.”
