Facing Challenges in the Workplace - Patricia Golden Webb at the EWOC Summit
Patricia Golden Webb, a cultural strategist, recently spoke at the Executive Women of Color Summit, hosted by the Leverage Network.
The EWOC Summit is a professional leadership and Board Governance conference designed to increase the representation of African American/Black women on boards and to enhance their leadership journey. They bring together some of the most dynamic, influential, and successful women in healthcare and corporate America to share candid, authentic conversations and lessons learned.
Patricia Golden Webb, a collaborative leader, and board member spoke about facing challenges in the workplace.
“Some of the challenges I’ve experienced, and I’m sure the three of us have experienced similar challenges, still exist today. Being a woman, and moreover, a Black woman requires overcoming. Being taken seriously and being able to own the space you're in and what you bring to the table - not all of it comes easily. We need to own the seats we have, and by own, I mean to use it to the benefit of the organization, but your own benefit as well.
“There are so many ‘isms’ we experience - sexism, racism - and they all exist today as well. Over the last several years, some of them have been brought to the table and are now being discussed, even more so than before. However, given all of this, we still have to move forward. Overcoming these challenges is the most important, even though they will continue to exist, you cannot let them hold you back in your continuous journey.”
